SCRAM! Mission Statement: Uniting the residents of a Silver Lake neighborhood against the misuse of a residential property for commercial purposes.

New residents are happily at home. 800 Silver Lake, like the rest of our neighborhood remains entirely residential!

Why SCRAM!

Our Silver Lake neighborhood is a close-knit, friendly and, above-all, residential community that cares about preserving the dignity, integrity and neighborhood feel. We love this neighborhood and are proud of what we have come together to build!

Protecting against zoning misuse.
The property located at 800 Silver Lake Boulevard is currently the subject of an application for non-compliant commercial use.

This Silver Lake neighborhood has long been an enclave of artisans, writers, actors, musicians, designers and other creative folk. The proposed business use for 800 Silver Lake is contrary to our neighborhood's art-based values. In addition to diminishing neighborhood aesthetics, it would put additional pressure on neighborhood residential resources including parking, street cleaning, traffic and other quality of life issues like concern about strangers coming and going.

According to Zoning, The City of Los Angeles General Plan, and The Silver Lake Specific Plan, our entire area is designated for residential use only. To read excerpts from the Silver Lake Community Plan click here.

Allowing one commercial use in our area sets a precedent for further commercial encroachment. This precedent could apply to Silver Lake and neighborhoods across greater Los Angeles. Once a variance for commercial use is granted to a property, there is no local control over the property's next use!
